WBI Team Wins Spectrum Beauty Expo!

A talented team of students from Western Beauty Institute’s San Fernando / Panorama City campus took First Place in the recent Spectrum International Beauty Expo 2008 Celebrity Look-alike Competition, held Monday, February 25th at the LAX Marriott Hotel.

Ms. Lana Cantrell, WBI Senior Instructor, coached the “Day Team,” who made model Nick Rose look exactly like popular superstar Enrique Iglesias. The team included Jaira Rodriguez, Hair; Ruby Ramirez, Makeup; and Allison McCune, Nails.

Coaching the “Night Team” was WBI Senior Instructor Mr. Salvador Mendoza, who made up model Aankha Neal to look like American Idol singer sensation Jennifer Hudson. Comprising the team were Azaziah Hubert, Hair; Devorah Medina, Makeup; and Kalista Lee, Nails.

“Show Your Love” Makeup Event

Recently, students in the San Fernando Valley Campus of Western Beauty Institute were challenged to come up with their best “Evening” and “Fantasy” makeup production for Valentines Day. Students chose to do either evening makeup or fantasy makeup or both. The event took place on Valentines Day in the Senior Room of the Panorama City campus.

Valentine Cards Make The Cut

Students from Western Beauty Institute’s Antelope Valley campus once again showed their creativity by creating Valentine cards for a contest held on February 14th at the Lancaster school. Winners were chosen from a number of impressive entries employing styled strands of hair and jewelry accents.

AV Veterans Stand Down

Specifically designed to help veterans having difficulties live as self-sufficiently and independently as possible was the goal of the Antelope Valley Veterans “Stand Down” event held at Grace Chapel in Lancaster on February 2nd. Student volunteers from Western Beauty Institute gave haircuts to the vets.

Palmdale High School Fashion Show

Western Beauty Institute students and staff lent their skills to help Palmdale High School students look their best for a fashion show event on Thursday, January 31st. This was the second time WBI was involved with the event, which featured male and female high school students cruising the runway on an outdoor stage.

“Be Beautyful”

Recently, Randy Fugate, Director of Marketing for Western Beauty Institute called for a shoot to illustrate the brand new marketing campaign he had envisioned called “Be Beautyful.” Mr. Fugate chose one of our incredibly beautiful and talented students, Michaela Foley from our Panorama City Campus to model for the series of billboards and bus “King” posters to be produced in support of this campaign. The first in the series will be 50 bus “King” posters which will travel throughout the Los Angeles County region. The campaign will begin Monday February 4th and Mr. Fugate stated, “I expect this to be one of our most successful campaigns to date. We all want to get the word out about the fabulous school and training available to such a diverse population of students as we have here in Southern California.”

La Opinión Shares WBI Nail Secrets

A recent feature article in La Opinión newspaper highlighted the manicuring tips of Western Beauty Institute Instructor Supervisor Flor Leaños. The article by La Opinión writer Patricia Prieto outlined the care, techniques and treatments Ms. Leaños teaches to make strong and beautiful nails.

A traditional manicure, the article states, begins with a light massage to the hands, and then proceeds to clean, shape and paint the nails. French nails can be accented with colors of pink, beige, lilac or white. But nails can also be embellished with artificial acrylic or plastic nail extensions and decorative paintings, stickers or precious stones.
