Prom Night is an important social event for most students. At Western Beauty Institute, this is no exception. But this particular social event, held recently at the San Fernando Valley campus of WBI, was a little different from your average prom night. In fact, there was no “prom” at all.

For their unbridled loyalty for 40-plus years, Western Beauty Institute recently gave a party at WBI’s San Fernando Valley Campus for the most loyal customers ever, Mrs. Murdice Campbell, Mrs. Cleo Fielder and Mrs. Gladys Romero.
A few years ago, Western Beauty Institute opened its Skin Care Center next to its popular Lancaster campus in the heart of the Antelope Valley and began teaching Estheology licensing courses to its students. Today, WBI is proud to announce that these same professional quality courses are now available for enrollment at its Panorama City / San Fernando Valley location, taught by WBI’s own Ms. Michelle Daytz.
On June 21st, 2008, graduation ceremonies and dinner were held at the world renowned Sportsmen’s Lodge in Studio City, California. Graduate students, their families and friends, other students, WBI instructors and staff from all campuses were in attendance to celebrate their most wonderful achievement.
As WBI students know, earning their diplomas in Cosmetology mean long hours of preparation, study, dedication, and a commitment to their community, giving of their time and energy performing beauty services and participating in many different community events. On Friday, June 27th, WBI students went above and beyond the giving of their time and energy, also giving their own blood to a community cause.
Revealed: Where WBI Gets Winners!Western Beauty Institute has had winner after winner recently and the question of where do all these winners come from has been raised. The answer is simple of course. Our winners are the students that come to school everyday on their quest to obtain the knowledge and hours to qualify for the license from the State Board.
A long running tradition of some graduates at Western Beauty Institute has been to celebrate Catholic mass the day preceding their graduation. This service is performed at the request of those students for whom Catholicism is a large part of their lives, spiritual and physical.
Again, WBI and Randy Fugate win BIG! They now have a prestigious Telly Award as validation of the quality of their marketing efforts. The Telly Awards have long been an industry arbiter of quality and excellence. And, now they have said Randy Fugate and WBI are producers of top quality commercials, equal to many of the world’s most exclusive agencies.
On June 1st, Western Beauty Institute instructors and students were invited to the Pechanga Casino and Resort in Temecula, California to participate in this year’s Super Sunday event sponsored by SuperCuts. Instructors were educated and entertained by Jamie Jones and her associate during a fact-packed, fun-filled seminar that was designed to sharpen teaching skills and create an impact on students with clever instructional devices.
Western Beauty Institute’s teachers attended instructional presentations given by Pivot Point Institute on June 1st as part of the SuperSunday event held at the popular Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California. The seminar contained a congregation of approximately 280 cosmetology instructors. The seminars are a small part of the continuing education each WBI instructor pursues each year.
Again this year, Supercuts stylists were invited to nominate their most influential instructor for the Ultimate Teacher Awards, held on Sunday, June 1st, at the Pechanga Casino in Temecula, California. Three new teachers from around the Southland were honored for their compassionate service and work. We salute them all.
For the fourth year in a row Western Beauty Institute students collectively won the competition for largest number of students at the Supercuts SuperStyles event. In fact, this year Western Beauty Institute won First Place AND Second Place school attendance award. WBI’s San Fernando Valley Campus in Panorama City was the First Place winner and WBI’s Antelope Valley Campus in Lancaster was Second Place winner. The event was part of the SuperSunday event held at the Pechanga Casino in Temecula, California on June 1st.
Western Beauty Institute has another winner! The Lancaster team of Rebecca Garcia, stylist, and Katie Scavo, model, won second place at the fabulous Super Sunday extravaganza. The event was held again this year at Pechanga Casino and Resort near Temecula, California. The Regis Corporation, owner of SuperCuts Hair Salons, arranges for students attending cosmetology schools from around Southern California to participate in a massively-produced competition with blasting contemporary music, staging, lights, prizes and hundreds of their fellow students urging them on, very loudly. It has been compared by some (who are knowledgeable of the event) to a rock concert starring student stylists. Each student competitor on stage was selected through “in-school” competitions at their respective schools. Teachers from the schools registered the students into the competition and shared with them the rules and the preparation needed. Supercuts supplied managers to mentor the student competitors and prepare them to show their best work.
The Esthetics branch of Western Beauty Institute is becoming the polished, shiny jewel in the WBI crown. Formerly a medical facility and just steps away from the large, main branch of Western Beauty Institute’s Antelope Valley Campus, the Esthetician’s Skin Care center retains that finished, medical office feel with the warmth of an upscale spa. The reception area is comfortable and furnished with comfortable seating, fresh beauty magazines for browsing, and refreshments. Aromas for calm moods waft through the air and pleasant sounds fill all the rooms.Recently, Western Beauty Institute installed into the Esthetics facility of the Antelope Valley Campus the area’s only Vichy shower. The Vichy shower is generally found in the finest hotel or resort spas and is an experience worth having.
Recently, the San Fernando Valley Campus of renowned Western Beauty Institute held a “Men’s Vogue” for the students. A total of six up-and-coming stylists coifed and groomed the male models “to a T.” The primarily female student populace greeted the models with great enthusiasm.
Talented students from Western Beauty Institute once again took home awards from the 2008 Barristar Beauty School Forum student trade show and competition, which was held on Sunday, April 20th and Monday, April 21st at the Hilton Hotel in Anaheim, California.

On Saturday April 18th, WBI staff and students were present again supporting the local Poppy Festival celebration in Lancaster City Park in the Antelope Valley. This is the second year the school has participated and again it was a rewarding experience for all.
Hairstyles are a big part of the social image and identity that children explore and develop. Because of disease or medical treatment, some children and teens must suffer the loss of a crucial part of their identity. Imagine being a teenager and going to school without your hair.
“We want to get the word out about the fabulous school and training available to such a diverse population of students as we have here in Southern California,” said Western Beauty Institute Director of Marketing Randy Fugate recently. His “Be Beautyful” poster designs are now appearing on buses all over the San Fernando Valley and beyond.
The prestigious American Advertising Federation Addy award was presented to Randy Fugate and Western Beauty Institute on Sunday night, March 16th. Randy Fugate, Director of Marketing for Western Beauty Institute, his wife Birte and Western Beauty Institute CEO Christina Diaz were at the Los Angeles Ad Pros awards dinner celebration held at the Odyssey restaurant in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles.
Cosmetology is on the move! Western Beauty Institute students have known that for a while, but now there’s a Beauty School in your phone! Western Beauty Institute now has it’s own mobile website, accessible from cell phones and other mobile devices at m.wbi.edu. The mobile site was designed to be easy to use and compatible with many different devices, and programmed to give quick, basic information about the school and its campuses in Panorama City and Lancaster.
In an article featured in the “Image” section of the Los Angeles Times on Sunday, March 2nd, Hollywood’s glamour girls are going “for short, kicky ’dos.” The paper and its partner website feature photos of Rihanna, Renée Zellweger, Selma Blair, Katie Holmes, Victoria Beckham and Charlize Theron all taking short cuts to the street.A talented team of students from Western Beauty Institute’s San Fernando / Panorama City campus took First Place in the recent Spectrum International Beauty Expo 2008 Celebrity Look-alike Competition, held Monday, February 25th at the LAX Marriott Hotel.
Ms. Lana Cantrell, WBI Senior Instructor, coached the “Day Team,” who made model Nick Rose look exactly like popular superstar Enrique Iglesias. The team included Jaira Rodriguez, Hair; Ruby Ramirez, Makeup; and Allison McCune, Nails.
Coaching the “Night Team” was WBI Senior Instructor Mr. Salvador Mendoza, who made up model Aankha Neal to look like American Idol singer sensation Jennifer Hudson. Comprising the team were Azaziah Hubert, Hair; Devorah Medina, Makeup; and Kalista Lee, Nails.
Recently, students in the San Fernando Valley Campus of Western Beauty Institute were challenged to come up with their best “Evening” and “Fantasy” makeup production for Valentines Day. Students chose to do either evening makeup or fantasy makeup or both. The event took place on Valentines Day in the Senior Room of the Panorama City campus.
Students from Western Beauty Institute’s Antelope Valley campus once again showed their creativity by creating Valentine cards for a contest held on February 14th at the Lancaster school. Winners were chosen from a number of impressive entries employing styled strands of hair and jewelry accents.
