WBI AV Staff Christmas Party

Western Beauty Institute’s Antelope Valley Campus instructors and staff celebrated our annual Christmas Party on Friday, December 14th at Fresco II Mediterranean Restaurant in Lancaster.

About forty instructors, staff members and their guests enjoyed Greek and Italian specialty hors d’oeurves, dinner buffet and desserts, featuring sauteed mushrooms, beef, chicken and seafood selections, and cannoli, among other selections.

Santa's WBI Helpers!

Exclusive to WBI, Santa has sent down his best helpers to pass out holiday cheer and presents to all good cosmetology, estheology and nail technology students in the San Fernando and Antelope Valleys. Those very helpers are now being featured on the front page of WBI's web site until Christmas. There are four different versions, played at random each time the page is displayed.

WBI Students And Staff Vamp It Up!

What’s a pretty ghoul to do? Strut her stuff, of course! WBI students and staff haunted the halls of our Lancaster and Panorama City campuses with ghoulish costumes and ghastly make-up.

WBI’s Lancaster day and evening held their competitions on Thursday, October 25th, while Panorama City’s was held on Tuesday, October 30th for evening classes and on Wednesday, October 31st for day classes.

WBI Participates in LA’s AIDS Walk

Despite advancements made in the treatment and prevention of HIV, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that the overall rate of infection continues to rise. This is the reason behind the AIDS Walk Los Angeles, a 10-kilometer walkathon that benefits AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA) in addition to several other local AIDS service organizations. For the past 25 years, APLA has been dedicated to providing bilingual services, prevention education, and leadership on HIV/AIDS-related policy and legislation.

Western Beauty Institute has published its latest video commercials on YouTube. The two commercials were released within the past week for airing on national cable networks in the Los Angeles area market. Now, the commercials are also airing on the YouTube website, available for viewing, viral posting and voting by YouTube members.

New WBI Commercials Released!

Two new TV commercials from Western Beauty Institute have just been released. The spots will air on national cable network shows throughout the Los Angeles media market.

The first commercial, entitled “The Cosmo Show,” is a parody of popular ’80s situation comedies, centered around the unfortunate misadventures of a beauty school student’s family. The second spot is a hilarious send-up of film noir detective stories of the ’40s, and features a line-up of criminal cosmetologists. It’s WBI to the rescue in the end, however, saving the day for beauty school students (and their families) everywhere.

WBI Styles AV’s “Teen Scene”

Student demonstrations of hair styling, makeup tips, karaoke singing and face painting were big hits at the “Teen Scene,” held at the Antelope Valley Mall on July 28th. “I'm very happy we were able to support Clear Channel, the Antelope Valley Mall, and all of the other businesses who took part in ‘Teen Scene’, and very happy we were able to show teens the opportunities available to them in the Beauty business,” said WBI’s Marketing Director Randy Fugate.

WBI Students to Compete for Hair Idol

“I’m very excited,” said Western Beauty Institute student Wendy Gonzalez about competing in the 2007 Sensationnel Hair Idol Show at the Long Beach Convention Center on Sunday, August 5th. “It’s a lot of work to prepare.”

Wendy and her fellow contestants are each required to recruit nine models, cut and style their hair, and produce a five-minute “runway show” with music, glitz and glamour worthy of “American Idol.” Competition categories include Best Makeup, Best Short Weave, Fantasy/Avant-Garde, Evening, Vocational Style and Best Barber. Winners will be awarded up to $3,000 in cash and prizes, and will advance to the Grand Finals competition to be held in Washington, D.C. in November.

PBS to air "HairWorld" Competition

The Los Angeles PBS station KCET will air "HairWorld: The Pursuit Of Excellence" from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25th, 2007.

The program follows TeamUSA as they prepare and compete in the International HairWorld Championships in Moscow’s ExpoCenter. Over 300 hair stylists from 40 countries competed in what was called the "Hair Olympics" for gold, silver and bronze medals in timed tests of styling skill. An extravagant awards ceremony was held in the Kremlin Palace. The competition was conducted by Organisation Mondiale Coiffure (OMC).

WBI Students In Cutting Edge Competition

Western Beauty Institute San Fernando Valley campus cosmetology students recently participated in a “Cutting Edge Competition.” The event was held July 2nd at the Panorama City cosmetology school.

The competition was broken into three parts. The first step required hair coloring of highlights and lowlights in any color. The second step involved the cut: trimming, layering, face framing and symmetrical cutting. Hair styling, the final step, required students to style the cut within a thirty-minute time limit.

WBI Celebrates June Brides!

Students and staff from Western Beauty Institute celebrated June brides with an event highlighting hairstyles, makeup and skin care techniques for brides, just in time for summer.

The extravagant event was held at the Lancaster, California campus of Western Beauty Institute on Friday, June 8th and involved the participation of many of the beauty school’s day and evening cosmetology and esthetics students. Models were dressed in bridal gowns with hair styles, nails and skin treatments performed by students under the supervision of the school’s highly-qualified instructors.

Students and staff from Western Beauty Institute participated in the three-day Juneteenth celebration June 15th-17th, 2007 in Littlerock, California. Approximately seventeen students took part, according to WBI’s Event Coordinator Beatriz Alvarez, with the students providing free hair styling to festival guests under the guidance of WBI’s trained instructors.

Miss Christina Receives Appreciation Award

On Tuesday, July 3rd, Miss Daisy and the Spanish class presented Miss Christina, CEO of Western Beauty Institute, with an award in appreciation of her efforts in giving everyone better opportunities at an advanced career as a Cosmetologist.

Miss Christina Diaz is recognized as having opened the school in Lancaster and for organizing the Cosmetology curriculum in Spanish. She is always attentive to the needs of the students and takes immediate action when needed, promoting events, and allowing the students to develop at their full potential.

Recently, California Stylist Magazine sponsored a cover contest from their thousands of subscribers. Randy Fugate, Director of Marketing, was intrigued with that possibility and decided to enter a photograph of Allyson Schott, one of his most iconic images representing Western Beauty Institute and the creativity of the student population. The photograph won Honorable Mention in the magazines’ contest.

Latino Style: Art & Color

Entrants from Western Beauty Institute will participate in the Latino Style, Art & Color event to be held June 25th & 26th at Valencia's South Point Argentine Grill Restaurant.

The event will feature two Latin American giants of hairstyling, Marta Rina Portillo Bonilla and Ariel Arlin, and will include the latest haircutting, color, extensions, updos, and make-up techniques. The event will take place entirely in Spanish.

SuperStyles Award Won By WBI Students

Western Beauty Institute students collectively won the competition for largest number of students at the Supercuts SuperStyles event for the third year in a row. The event was part of the SuperSunday event held at the Pechanga Casino in Temecula, California on May 6th.

Two students from Lancaster, Sylvia Suarez and Alicia Silva, competed in the Supercuts Superstyles competition, one in the Junior Mannequin competition “RetroGlam from the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s”, and one in the Senior live model competition “Flashback to the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s”. The hairstyles were chosen by the participants. Entries were judged on the qualities of Presentation, Technique and Form in the areas of Cutting and Styling.

Amanda Anderson of Lancaster, a recent graduate of Western Beauty Institute, nominated Ms. Becky Breda, also of Lancaster, for her Ultimate Teacher nominee.

Overwhelming Response At Poppy Festival

Western Beauty Institute's sponsorship of the local hip-hop station, 100.9 FM, “The Heat's” participation at the 2007 Poppy Festival held in Lancaster City Park Saturday, April 21st was incredibly successful. Literally hundreds of men, women, children and families dropped by the small but powerful Adelman Broadcasting booth which Western Beauty Institute was sponsoring on Saturday. Make up, makeovers, hair styling, hair braiding, hair color, face painting was all being provided by WBI students supervised by our beautiful Miss Alena of the Estheology Department. The station was overwhelmed by the response of the crowd. Jess Collins of Adelman Broadcasting was extremely impressed by all of the students and staff of Western Beauty Institute. "Wow, everybody here is GREAT!" Jess said after the crowds began swarming over the set up.
